Power in your Pocket! Techniques for Observing Children- During this beginner level training session for family child care providers, participants will discover the importance of observing children in their care. They will identify simple tools that can be used for documenting children’s progress (like a smartphone camera, pen and paper, notes app, or tally sheets) and summarize together how those tools and techniques could work in their own environments.
How Participants Will Learn
This is an interactive session with plenty of opportunities for participants to engage in their learning. Some of the activities include:Reviewing real scenarios and examples: Participants will review sample observation scenarios to identify the importance of documenting children’s behavior and development.
Tool Exploration Stations and Reflection: Groups will learn different documentation tools and discuss and share ideas on how the tools can be adapted to fit their environments.
Technique Comparison Exercise: Participants will compare methods, highlighting what works best for time management, detail, and family communication.
By the end of this session, participants will leave with actionable strategies and practical tools to enhance observation, assessment, and record-keeping practices in their child care programs.
This training session provides 2 hours of Set One training in Observation and Assessment (OA)
